Eleutherus Cooke House and Garden
1415 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio

The Eleutherus Cooke House was built by Sandusky's first lawyer in 1843-1844 on the northwest corner of Columbus Avenue and West Washington Row. It was moved to 1415 Columbus Avenue in the late 1870's and rebuilt.
Only three other families have lived in the house. The last residents were Randolph and Estelle Dorn, who bought it in the early 1950's and redecorated it. Mrs. Dorn left the house and contents to the Ohio Historical Society.. It remains much as it was when the Dorns lived there.
Decorative features include an extensive collection of glass and English porcelain, antiques, and furniture contemporary with the 1950's and beyond. The garden includes a working greenhouse. The gift shop has local and Ohio memorabilia.
The Cooke House State Memorial is managed by The Old House Guild of Sandusky.
